Fuel & Driver Shortages

We are sure you have seen the news circulating mainstream media today regarding the fuel and driver shortages in the UK. We wanted to highlight some details for your information, to further make you aware of the UK haulage issues which are being faced across the board and to warn you of further inevitable delays. We will of course inform you of any changes to the situation as soon as we are aware

Industry bodies estimate that the UK is short of about 100,000 HGV drivers – with gaps made worse by the coronavirus pandemic, tax changes and Brexit. A handful of BP and Esso (Tesco Alliance) stations closed on Thursday due to a lack of delivery drivers causing a fuel shortage concern. There are some reports today stating that the government would consider having soldiers drive fuel tankers, in an emergency situation if this would help alleviate issues.

Logistics UK, which represents the haulage industry, said it was “aware of reports that petrol supplies are currently being affected” by the lack of drivers.
